We would like to announce Xibo for Android v1.7 R54. This release works with Xibo CMS versions 1.4, 1.6 and 1.7.

Features and Issues resolved in this release:

  • Fixed audio mute on video media
  • Improvements to communication between Player and CMS to prevent disconnections
  • Fixed priority scheduling when moving from recurring schedules that are of the same Layout
  • Fixed image alignment
  • Fixed problem opening the settings page in some circumstances when the settings were provided from the CMS
  • Added Support for USB Storage
  • Call shell commands natively if the application is signed with the platform key (requires white label build)
  • Added WebView start options for clients requiring active content in webpages
  • Expose server key with a check box in CMS Connection Wizard

Xibo for Android 1.7 R51 is now available

Announcing R51 of Xibo for Android 1.7. This release works with Xibo CMS versions 1.4, 1.6 and 1.7.

Features and Issues resolved in this release:

  • Add the option to enter the licence email address if the CMS doesn’t provide one
  • Expire modified layouts configuration option (requires 1.7.1 CMS)
  • Correctly detect when switching from a 1.6 to 1.7 CMS
  • Correctly adjust Collection Interval when it is adjusted in the CMS
  • Never blacklist files downloaded from the CMS via HTTP
  • Storage Space status reported to the CMS (1.7.1 CMS required)

Xibo 1.7.0 is here!

We are pleased to announce that yesterday we released the 1.7.0 stable release of Xibo to the community. This release has taken us 4 months to develop, test and bring to you all and contains a whole host of new features. You can find out more on the Xibo Project Announcement.

We didn’t want our Cloud and Android customers to be left behind, so we have our platform ready for 1.7.0 from today!

Xibo in the Cloud

Xibo in the Cloud now fully supports 1.7.0 instances, but we’ve left you in control of whether you use 1.6 or 1.7 – we encourage everyone to try 1.7! All new accounts will need to choose a version to install before they get created on the Cloud, there is a version selector in the Shop. Upgrades are available as usual, see “Upgrading your Cloud CMS Instance” for instructions.

Xibo for Android

We’d like to announce Xibo for Android 1.7 R50 which has compatibility with CMS 1.7 and backwards compatibility with CMS 1.6. We are providing free of charge upgrades to this release for any licences purchased since 1st June 2014, you can check if your licences are eligible by looking at the number of upgrades your licence pool has been assigned in the customer portal. Features and Issues resolved in this release:

  • Stability improvements to prevent crashes during a network outage
  • Send more log messages at one time when in “catch up” after a network outage
  • Improvements to the error messages provided by the CMS when the Server Key is incorrect or there is some other issue with downloading Media
  • Status screen reports free storage
  • Files will not attempt to download if the free storage space is insufficient
  • Library files that are no longer required will be deleted immediately if the free storage space is below 10%, otherwise the 7 day rule still applies.
  • Fixed an issue with the “Duration is per item” setting on Ticker Media.

Features and Issues resolved in this release:

  • Added a configuration option for the maximum number of days to keep the locally cached logs.
  • Added a configuration option to request root access (for Shell Commands).
  • Added pre-loading of Images for a smoother more instant change between image resources.
  • Added an Image Cache to improve memory usage and reduce disk I/O. This also improves pre-loading speed.
  • Added more logging for memory pressure (https://springsignage.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/3000019052) situations.
  • Resolved issues for customers that run a mixture of standard / white label clients from the same licence pool.
  • Add code to automatically start videos in Web Page based media (embedded, web page). Assumes device support for HTML 5 is available.
  • Detect and Black List Images that cannot be decoded.

Today we’re announcing R36 of the Xibo for Android client for Xibo 1.4 and 1.6!

From this version onwards Android 4.0.3+ is required, Android 4.1+ is recommended.

Issues Resolved in this release:

  • Fix for always updating Text, Ticker and DataSet Resources in the background instead of when they are loaded. Required 1.6.2 CMS to apply.
  • Fix for web page scaling. Required 1.6.2 CMS to apply.
  • Debugging option for storing HTML on Internal Storage. Fixes an issue with some devices not being able to show Text/Ticker media.
  • Fix for the application not restarting on Upgrade.
  • Introduced compatibility with the Xibo for Android Update Manager (to be released shortly)
